MR THOKOZANI TWALA

Thokozani Thwala has 24 years of leadership experience in the public and private sectors. He is a former board member of the Gauteng Economic Development Agency (GEDA) and the Tshwane Economic Development Agency (TEDA). Under his collaborative leadership, he is working with the shareholder (City of Joburg), industry value chain stakeholders, board members, and Team Joburg Market, in making Joburg Market a commercially viable state-owned company (SOC), a socially responsible corporate citizen, and sustainable business that contributes to food security in South Africa and in SADC.

He has been involved in Agriculture, Agro-processing, Agri-Tech, and Food & Beverage sectors across the country and in SADC. Thokozani’s core capabilities relevant to his role as the board chairperson of Joburg Market are designing sustainable business models, leading for shareholder value, leading for customer value, leading for societal value, and ethical governance practices.

He holds a Masters Degree in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. He has undertaken business visits to more than 30 countries around the world.

MS SANELISIWE MMUSI

Qualifications: BSc Honours Environmental Science (Rhodes University). Masters in Business Administration (Wits Business School)

Mrs Sanelisiwe Mmusi is an experienced environmental specialist with over 10 years in the industry. She has a strong background in environmental management and environmental compliance auditing.  Mrs Mmusi also has experience in operations management having been an Operations Executive prior to leaving corporate to pursue her business interests.

She is currently the founder and Executive Director of Black Velvet; a women-owned construction and environmental consulting firm that is a member of the Green Building Council of South Africa. She is a Green Star Accredited Professional who is passionate about helping organisations align themselves with the Green Agenda while optimising their operations and consequently improving business performance. 

Her role, a member of the Joburg Market board, is to assist in providing strategic leadership and supporting the executive team in implementing the Joburg Markets’ key objectives. Her goal is to promote the appropriate and regular oversight of environmental issues critical to the long-term economic success and reputation of the entity.

MR VUMA S NGCOBO

Vuma Ngcobo is a seasoned professional with several years worth of experience in supply chain, strategy, scenario planning and projects. Vuma has previously worked in Santiago de Chile on various construction and Stay In Business (SIB) Project initiatives and has also worked on a National Scenario planning initiative in 2018.

 

Vuma holds a BCom (Marketing Management), BCom Honours (Logistics Management) both from the University of Johannesburg , PGDip (Industrial Engineering) from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Certificate in Mining, Minerals and Business. Vuma is also pursuing an MBA with Wits Business School, specializing in strategy and foresight.

MS ZAKITHI MTHEMBU

Zakithi Mthembu is an Admitted Legal Practitioner (Attorney) of the High Court of South Africa who’s legal experience includes domestic and cross border mergers and acquisitions and financial services and market’s regulation.

Zakithi is currently employed as a Business Manager in the financial services industry and is responsible for overseeing the operational and strategic functions of a business unit within Corporate and Investment Banking.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Business Management and Law as well as a Bachelor of Laws degree. She completed her articles of clerkship at one of South Africa’s leading corporate law firms.

She is passionate about education and promoting financial inclusion. Her personal interests include reading, writing and travelling.

MR JAN MOCKE

Jan Mocke is a qualified electronic engineer (University of Pretoria), who has completed a Masters in Business Leadership at Unisa. After working as consulting engineer, he joined the IDC for a number of years. He later spent many years in senior management positions in agricultural organisations, including Sapekoe Estates and Mount Carmel Farms.

He served on the boards/management committees of various producer organisations, including The Tea Council of Southern Africa (Chairman), South African Coffee Growers Secretariat and South African Macadamia Growers Association (Chair of Marketing Committee).

He was also COO at the Joburg Market for seven years, after which he served on the Joburg Market Board for two terms.  He now works as an independent consultant on the development of fresh produce markets and agriculture projects.

He is playing an instrumental role in the design and construction of the new Mpumalanga International Fresh Produce Market, introducing various industry leading features.

MR EMMANUEL SIFISO CELE​

Mr Victor Emmanuel Sifiso Cele, known as Sifiso, is a seasoned executive businessman and passionate entrepreneur, currently the Managing Director of Ariston Capital,  CEO of Palladium Beverages Group and Managing Director of Ndosi KaMagaye Search Partners. He spent 22 years in various leadership positions at an executive level with Blue Chip companies in the financial sector. Some of these include Absa Bank Limited, Liberty Group (STANLIB), Liberty Corporate, and Liberty Health; as well as ABSA Corporate and Business Bank, Standard Bank, ABI – Coca Cola, and Unilever. His background is Human Resources and General Management. Mr Cele holds an MBA and Global Executive Development Programme (GEDP) qualifications from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), as well as an Honours degree in Industrial Sociology, and a Bachelor of Social Science Degree in Industrial Sociology and Organisational Psychology – both from UCT. He was also the Board Member of the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) and currently a Trusteed Board Member of the National Empowerment Fund’s (NEF) Human Capital Committee and an Non Executive Director with the Joburg Market. He is also a Secretary of the Pholela High School Alumni Central Committee.

MR ZAMA XALISA

QUALIFICATIONS: MBA; MSC Agri; B. Tech Agric. Bus. Mgt, Nat. Dip: Agri. Bus. Mgt; MAP; FNFM; PM).  

Mr. Zama Xalisa is currently a Chairman and Managing Director in his Company, ZAMGRO Business Enterprise based in Johannesburg which was established in 2020. Before opening his company, he worked for the State as a Chief Executive Officer of the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC) a State Owned Entity and prior this position, he served as a Senior Manager responsible for Agricultural Industry Trusts within the Marketing Council. Mr Xalisa held various senior positions in different companies with over 20 years’ experience which includes Absa Bank, Credit Management Solutions, Norton Lambrianos Attorneys, Edcon Group and the department of Education. While at the NAMC, Mr. Xalisa represented the Minister of Agriculture in different Industry Trusts and was very instrumental in driving transformation in the Agricultural Sector. These Industry Trusts includes among others Maize Trust, Potato Industry Trusts, Winter cereal Trust, Sorghum Trust, Wool Trust, Mohair Trust, Citrus Industry Trusts etc. He is one of the founding Trustees of Mohair Development Trust and a founding member of Grain Farmers Development Association (GFADA).

 

He served and still serving in different Boards of Directors from different organizations. He served as an Interim Chairperson of Amatola Water Board and the Chairperson of the Strategic Business Committee of the Board. He is also serving as a Board Member at the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market and also serving as a Chairperson of Remuneration, Social Ethics and Transformation Committee (REMSET). He also served as Non-Executive Director at Abenzi Investments Holdings responsible for Marketing and Strategy. Mr Xalisa holds two Master’s Degrees, Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Milpark Business School, Master’s in Sustainable Agriculture (MSA) from University of Free State University, National Diploma in Agricultural Business Management from Fort Cox College, Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) Agricultural Management from University of South Africa. Management Advancement Programme from Wits Business School, Finance for non-Financial Managers Wits Business School, Executing BEE Strategy Certificate from Gordon Institute of Business School. Mr. Xalisa has achieved the following among others:  Successful development of financial strategy for BEE projects while working at the Absa Bank; successful structuring of commercial and development projects within Absa Corporate and Business Banking for financing. He has been a chairperson of Absa and T.I.G.F forum. He also served as a member of credit committee at Technoserve.

DR THEMBI XABA

Dr Xaba has established herself in the field of development economics as an executive and as an authoritative source in development finance. Her publishing credits include African Journal of Economic and Management Studies and American Journal of Economics, Finance and Management. She is the former CEO of the Deciduous Fruit Development Chamber, and  currently the Managing Director for Digital Earth Africa, leading an Earth Observation Program and a team in Africa.

Dr Xaba’s career path for over 20 years, illustrates an exemplary combination of development economics with agricultural financing and development as her core focus, extending expertise to food security and investment promotion.

Her advice, opinion pieces, presentations and lectures draw from her wealth of knowledge gained from her qualifications and experience in her tenures. She has leveraged her development economics and agribusiness expertise in roles from both the public sector and the private sector.

Dr Xaba holds a PhD in Business Management Administration and MPhil in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch respectively. In addition, she also possesses post graduate qualifications in Agriculture and Economic Policy.  She also guest lectures on Agricultural Finance, at the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

Her extensive experience covers both private (multi-nationals) and public-sector roles and cuts across various industries. She has worked alongside top Executives, CEOs and Boards of directors in strategic decision-making and organisational management. 

MR RAYMOND MAGAGULA

Raymond Magagula is a seasoned Information Technology expert with diverse background in leadership and strategy in the field of information technology. He has extensive experience in information auditing, security, and management of enterprise information technology. Raymond held various technical, advisory and leadership roles in several financial institutions which include banking and insurance organizations. Raymond oversaw multiple Information technology projects and digital transformation programs in the financial sector. He served as an independent audit committee member at the Johannesburg metropolitan trading company (MTC) and serve as an independent chairperson of the ICT steering committee at Construction Industry Development Board (cidb).
