Joburg Market, Africa’s largest fresh produce market, has been selected to host the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) Conference in May 2025. This will be the first time the prestigious event is held on the African continent.
The announcement was made during the recent WUWM Conference, which started on 30 October and ended today, 1 November 2024, in Rimini, Italy.
Joburg Market’s Acting CEO, Sello Makhubela, formally accepted the hosting responsibilities on behalf of the City of Johannesburg. He was joined by the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development, Cllr Nomoya Mnisi, and Joburg Market Board Chairperson Mzikayise Ndlovu.
“We are honoured to host WUWM 2025 at Joburg Market and showcase our city’s vibrant economy,” said Makhubela. “This is a historic moment for Johannesburg and the entire African continent.”
The conference will feature a diverse programme of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and market tours. It will provide a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and market operators to exchange ideas and explore innovative solutions.
The City of Johannesburg is excited to welcome delegates from around the world and showcase the city’s vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and world-class hospitality.
